Dance callers and teachers Myra Hirschberg and Tom Calwell are Dancingthread, specializing in leading dances for community, corporate, civic and celebratory occasions for all ages and levels of experience. We bring people together on the dance floor with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of fun. Watch some video clips of our dances.

We are available to call and teach contra, old time square dances, cajun, zydeco, waltz, hambo, family dances, ceilidhs, and barn dances. Dancingthread provides entertainment for corporate conferences and professional functions, and intergenerational events, such as weddings, anniversaries and other community gatherings. We work with many fine local musicians and can arrange an ensemble to fit the occasion and budget.

These dances do not require any dancing experience and will have you and your guests dancing with each other within minutes. They are great community builders. You get to smile, hold hands, swing, and share a good experience with someone that may have been a stranger, and has now become a friend. By the end of the evening, you have a room full of friends.

Tom and Myra have taught monthly cajun dances with Swamperella in Toronto and BobCajun in Peterborough. We hold occasional contra dances in Peterborough with a variety of local musicians, including Flapjack and the Squirrel Hunters. We call regularly at numerous venues throughout Ontario and the United States.

For more information on what we have to offer, check out our pages on barn dance, cajun dance and contra dance. If you're planning your wedding, we can help you with your first dance, or provide entertainment for the reception.
